The Providence Video Project

Cellar Media and I just released our first docu-short for my church Providence Church. It features the Castle family as they expound on how they have found encouragement at Providence as they began to worship into their everyday life. I hope you find this docu-short to be an encouragement to you and your family as you seek Christ's Kingdom.

Film + Fashion Behind the Scenes - Peoria, IL

Once I start a project I like to wrap up the loose ends quickly. So here I am, before my previous post is cold in its grave posting the semi-conclusion to the Film + Fashion photoshoot. I say "semi" due to the fact I still have not developed the film from this little expedition. That detail is dependent on others to make happen and therefore must wait. Anyway, it got me thinking. Why not release the BTS from the shoot now along with the digital images that were shot and then re-release it along with a developing BTS video once I get that developing bit taken care of.

Project Background
Some of the "why" questions regarding this shoot will not be answered in the BTS video. I didn't think on my feet fast enough to talk about that on set. So, I'm going to take the opportunity to answer them now. Why film? well, I am a product of my generation and while I'm a photographer, I have actually never shot/developed film before now. I didn't go to school specifically for photography and therefore never had the opportunity handed to me.

However, the fascination with film as grown over the years and after literally 4 book boxes full of old camera's being dumped in my lap I couldn't pass up this opportunity to give film a whirl. Dirk Jaegle, friend and strong film advocate, came along to provide insight and shoot alongside. Needless to say we had a blast.

Throughout the entire day we tested out 5 cameras:
• Argus 35mm w/ a 50mm f3.5 lens
• Spartus Full Vue (120 film)
• YvigAlander Billiant (120 film)
• Tower (120 film)
• Agfa Isolette (120 film)

Another camera that you'll see a lot of throughout the video is the Kodak Dualflex IV. Unfortunately this camera shot 620 film which is harder film stock to come by so we weren't able to give it a run at this point, but it made for a great prop.

The Video
As always I was blessed again by Matt Blick of Cellar Media doing the BTS filming. Matt and I have done several gigs (Mission: Acquire, Herbie vs Challenger, Archer and Zowie) together and I love the work he produces.

The Centralia Mine Fire - Music Video

The Centralia Mine Fire is a Peoria, IL based independent rock band. I have had the opportunity to watch these guys over the years develop into the band they are today. However, before I get too sentimental here's the live music video Matt Blick of Cellar Media and I created for them. Enjoy!

Three great wedding photographers here in Peoria Illinois

Black Olive Photographic is matching up with select photographers throughout central Illinois to offer a comprehensive video montage package. Each of the photographer has their own unique style and approach to capturing your special event and since I work directly with each photographer our integration is seamless. Wedding planners will no longer have to juggle videographer and photographers, but both services have be wrapped into one bundle.

Keeping it short and sweet:
One of the major mistakes a bride can make is thinking she'll want the entire ceremony and reception captured. Not only is this very expensive, it doesn't always result in something that's enjoyable to watch later down the road. With Black Olive's montage you get a quick refresher of the day's highlights, sparking memories that will last a lifetime. You don't need every moment captured just enough to help you remember those special moments.

Keeping it simple:
With the seamless integration of photographer and videographer you no longer have to worry about them messing each other up. We know how to work with and accommodate each other. Plus, your final video will showcase some of the best images from the photographers collection.

Black Olive is the there the entire day, I arrive with the photographers and leave when they're finished. I capture the entire day and condense it down into a tasteful 2-5 minute montage that can be watch and enjoy by friends and family for years to come. And with the use of social media networks like YouTube and Facebook our clients have the ability to share their movies with relative around the world.

I currently work with three stellar photographers based locally in central Illinois.

How will you remember your special day?

Mission: Acquire - Behind the Scenes

I received a lot of support from everyone on my latest video "mission: acquire". If you're not familiar with this video you can check it out in an earlier post. I had a incredible time directing this film from concept to final submission. The guys I worked with made the whole experience fun from beginning to end. Couldn't have asked for a better crew. I've thrown together a short (but longer than the actual film) behind the scenes video for those interested, to see what went into to making this flick.

Also, for those photographer people wanting to know how the last photo was taken you can see all the photos that were taken to make that final composite. Click on the link below to check it out!

Nikon D90 at Life Chain 2009

As a lot of you know I've picked up a Nikon D90 this past year. Since then i've constantly being using its D-Movie functions. Many of the Peirao Group videos have been shot with the D90.

I've been planning for a while to begin producing small video snippets of my Church's numerious ministries. This is the first video that I've actually completed. I've been shooting a lot of b-roll, but haven't had opportunities to capture a-roll content.

The Life Chain is an international event that bring unity and organization to the protest against abortion. Pastor James McDonald explains the purpose very well in the video below. Enjoy!

Now Offering: Wedding Videos

Wedding videos are a great way to remember the day. While it will never replace the need for a photographer, a video of your special day, in this present time of social media networks, video is a great for sharing or reliving the day with friends and family. I focus my creative energy on the photography time of the day, its during that time when stress is most relieved. Family is enjoying themselves and the Bride and Groom are most at ease.

Here are a couple of videos that I've produced. Looking forward to more in the future. Drop me a line if you're interested in scheduling your wedding.

J Aaron Greene - Scott Kelby Guest Blogger

So my good friend, Aaron Greene from down south received recognition for his work of the Derek Webb Stockholm Syndrome video. The main interest to this video, at least from a photographers perspective, is that it was shot with the Nikon D90. Check out his whole post describing the project.Kelby Blog

September

Just completed the September shoot this past weekend. Check out the album on facebook... September Gallery. In hindsight, a theme that I saw come out was turning day into night. All of the photos are shot during the day (10a-2p). Anyway I'd love for you to leave a comment on how well you think I accomplished my digital transformation of each shot. If you're on facebook, become a fan and leave a comment. Thanks!

Peirao Group

Peirao Group is been going steady for a while now and a lot of exciting things have been happening. The biggest of which was the our new name. "Peirao Group" - while visually peirao group looks cooler than "monthly experimental shoot" there were a few problems... one being pronunciation. So... to solve all problems I've created a video that should clear up all issues connected with that.

Enjoy!

I then also created a video for our July trip up to Chicago... Stay posted! August's video is coming soon.

For those living under a bush, The Peirao group is a collection of photographers that I organize a monthly experimental shoot for. The word Peirao is greek for "Try" or "Test" and that's exactly what we do at our shoots. Looks us up on facebook

I have an itch...

... to produce a music video. This has been a on going interest that managed to subside for a little while, but has since been resurrected thanks to Jeremy Cowart's new music video for Abandon's "Hold On". This particular video was shot entirely with Canon's 5D MkII.

I'm currently at the stage where I'm locating a band... and I have a few ideas that I'm going to check into. Once I find the perfect band, I'll begin building my production team. Let me know if you'd be interested in participating! I'm definitely moving forward on this.
