Long Exposure

Here is a picture shot with my new DSLR. This photo was an experiment to see the noise level generated by this camera during long exposures. It was shot with a 6 second exposure time, a f10 stop, and a ISO speed of 200. I have to say I was amazed at the results. Take a look at the close up and let me know what you think

G-Mesh update No. 1

Here is an update to the "After" picture posted on the previous post.

The obvious addition is the bag. The less obvious additions are the many little striped located on her jacket.

I am still NOT done with this illustration. I thought I would share with you the extent of this project. This illustration has a total of 12 layers right now. This doesn't sound like that many but this includes 12 Gradient Meshes, 161 Stripes, plus numerous shading items. Here is a screen capture of the lines involved in this illustration.

Gradient Mesh

The art of gradient mesh is a new technique I have been experimenting with for a little while now. This tool is located within Adobe's Illustrator application.

I have been utilizing this technique in the reproduction/illustration of people. Gradient mesh is a simple but very tedious method of artistic computer illustration. below I have a picture showing my progress on a rather large project. I will probably upload some screen captures later on so you can see what is going on behind the surface of the picture.

Of course this "After" picture is not a finished product by any means. It is just where I am at in the process of the entire illustration.

1 a.m.

Waiting patiently for well over 3 hrs now, I have been exporting my recent video project from the computer to minDV tape which if you are unaware is all in realtime and takes forever. By writing to tape I will be able to clear up some Hard Drive space for future projects. Gondoliers my current project is taking a wopping 117 some gigabytes of space.

Gondoliers (current): This project was a DVD creation of Gilbert and Sullivan's operetta "The Gondoliers" put on by a local Homeschool group I, being a graduate from this group came back this year to video tape, organize, and direct the making of this DVD which was made available to the families.

China Students Illinois Visit (future): A friend of mine was over in China teaching english to chinese students. She wanted them to be able to come over and experience the United States first hand, she set it all up and brought a small group over for a couple weeks. They are doing a load of things while over here and video taping it all. They then wish to hand off the tape to me for the creation of a DVD. I have till tuesday night to work on the project. and then it MUST be finished and delivered.

Welcome

Welcome! The intent of this blog is to let people into my life who have till this point, been deprived of such a pleasure. "lol". Really I am working on several project related to print, film, and photography. I thought I would pass on the things in which I have learned through these projects to all of you who might be interested. I am a currently a Graphic Arts major which I have been enjoying immensely thus far. I also have a growing interest in film and video production and have gotten private projects here and there from friends.

In connection with this type of work I spend a lot of time on my computer so I think I'll start by telling you what I have. I have a Apple Dual 1.8Ghz Powermac G5 with 1.5 GB of RAM (which helps with all the multi-tasking). I just recently aquired my third hard drive to total out at 660 gigabytes of space. All that space is necessary for the large video files I store on my computer during projects. Anyway the only part in which my computer is lacking is in the display. I currently have a 19in CRT which was given to me. Anyway this is where it all happends... at least for me.
